TBR Lists | Chat with JBelkBooks

IMG_8363

Hello my fellow internet users & Happy Friday (stay tuned for my Friday Finds)! You may be wondering what the heck this post is, so I thought I would explain this creation first…

If you didn’t know, at the end of last year I held a 2015 Blog Survey in which I asked my viewers to share their thoughts about my blog — what they enjoyed, what they wanted to see more of, what they thought I should try, etc. And many, many responses in regards to “what I should try” were Discussion Posts! Now, I love reading other blogger’s Discussion Posts. And it did cross my mind that I should try them for myself, but I didn’t think anyone would read them & I had no idea what to  DISCUSS. However, since I did earn many requests for Discussions, I thought “why not? I can figure something out…” So, yes. That is what this post, and many others, will be about.

My 2015 Blog Survey is still currently up, so if you haven’t taken it or you want to request some other post suggestions, feel free to click here to do so!

TBRs.These are the lists (or in some case, piles) most book bloggers/readers have because of all of the amazing novels that exist in the world. And of course, we all don’t have time to read every single novel unfortunately. So we make these lists (or piles) to keep track of the novels that are going to hopefully be read in the near future. OR in simpler terms:

But how do you decide what you add to your TBR list? Or in other words, how do you choose what novels you want to buy & read (eventually)?

There are several types of book buyers in the world:

  1. “The synopsis has to hook me or I won’t even think about buying this novel.”
  2. “It’s my favorite genre/author, it has to be good.”
  3. “THECOVERISGORGEOUSIHAVETOBUYITEVENTHOUGHIPROBABLY DON’TKNOWANYTHINGABOUTTHENOVEL!!!!!! [The cover is gorgeous I have to buy it even though I probably don’t know anything about the novel!!!!!!]”
  4. “The hype is real for this novel & everyone else has read it.”
  5. “The reviews and ratings are pretty nice, I guess I’ll give it a try.”

Yes, there are a ton of other types, but these are the ones that are most seen in the bookish community. I must say I am a mixture of all of those types, though. Let me break it down:

  • 40% synopsis
  • 15% cover
  • 13% favorite author/genre
  • 12% hype pressure
  • 20% ratings & reviews

This isn’t EXACTLY how I choose the novels I add to my TBR list, but it’s close enough. All in all, if the synopsis is great & the ratings are somewhat good, the chances of me purchasing & adding the novel to my TBR are very, very good.
