What?? A Book Review?! | Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol

“Anya could really use a friend. But her new BFF isn’t kidding about the “Forever” part.

Of all the things Anya expected to find at the bottom of an old well, a new friend was not one of them. Especially not a new friend who’s been dead for a century.

Falling down a well is bad enough, but Anya’s normal life might actually be worse. She’s embarrassed by her family, self-conscious about her body, and she’s pretty much given up on fitting in at school. A new friend—even a ghost—is just what she needs.

Or so she thinks. Spooky, sardonic, and secretly sincere, Anya’s Ghost is a wonderfully entertaining debut from author/artist Vera Brosgol.”

So, yes, I am too surprised that I am actually typing up a review post, but here I am! However, I was hoping this GN was going to get me out of my slump and influence me to read, but it didn’t. Anyways, here’s the review.

Subscription Box: Uppercase Box | #11

Random Fact of the Day: It takes up to four hours to hard boil an ostrich egg.

Hello sunshines!🔆 I almost had a mini heart attack because I thought I skipped a month of Uppercase, but turns out I didn’t! *wipes perspiration off of forehead* Anyways, today I am back with another unboxing and review of Uppercase Box: the September edition.

Uppercase Box | Young Adult Monthly Book Subscription BoxFrom Uppercase, every month you’ll get an amazing young adult book that you’ll absolutely love! Every book you get from Uppercase is a brand new, hardcover book that’s signed by the author or comes with a signed bookplate from the author. Every Uppercase book is always published within the last month. It is extremely uncommon for a subscriber to already have a finished copy of the book and it almost never happens.

There are two current options that you can subscribe to:

  • Book Exclusive Plan – $17/month [Brand new hardcover, YA book, signed book or bookplate, reading experience with exclusive content, & a personal hand-written note to you]
  • Expert Plan – $23/month [everything listed from the Book Exclusive Plan, except you also get 1-2 high-quality bookish items]

ITEMS INCLUDED:

  • The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron — SIGNED
  • The Forgetting Mini Notebook
  • “This Is How We Roll” pouch (Uppercase Exclusive)
  • “Certified Book Addict” Sticker designed by Alexis Lampley of Nerdy.Post

The Forgetting has been on everyone’s radar lately, so I’m really glad I got this one so early! The “This Is How We Roll” pouch is so adorable, and I will definitely be putting that and the Notebook into good use. I also have trouble finding places to put stickers, but I’m sure this one will find a home ☺️

Also, did anyone notice the slightly purple-ish theme going on?? 💜 I love purple, so this was also a plus! AND the cover for The Forgetting is absolutely gorgeous 😍

SEPTEMBER’S UPPERCASE BOX RATING: 4/5 STARS

NOTE: In case you guys weren’t aware, the Exclusive Content includes a special code that you can enter on their website to unlock exclusive content, videos from the author, additional backstories, and interact with other Uppercase readers. I personally have not tried this out yet just because I haven’t gotten around to actually reading a book that they’ve sent me. However, I do enjoy the idea!

And that is all for the September Uppercase Box! Uppercase has definitely been increasing in better bookish items, so I am really happy about that! After next month, I am going to have been subscribed for a year, and I’m thinking I might want to move on to a different subscription box? Let me know your thoughts!

*Disclaimer: Uppercase currently ships to U.S. and Canada, including APO addresses and Puerto Rico only.*

Thanks for reading & I’ll see you next time…

Random Fact of the Day: If your skin is laid flat it will cover an area of 18 square feet.

Hello sunshines — it’s almost Friday!! 🙂 Last month I received the August Uppercase Box, so that is what I will be sharing with you all today!

  • Expert Plan – $23/month [everything listed from the Book Exclusive Plan, except you also get 1-2 high-quality bookish items]

ITEMS INCLUDED:

  • P.S. I Like You by Kasie West – SIGNED
  • P.S. I Like You quote print – “Words Brought Us Together”
  • “Once Upon A Time” Necklace  (UPPERCASE EXCLUSIVE)
  • Bookish Thoughts Notepad designed by Simini Blocker  (UPPERCASE EXCLUSIVE)

This month’s book of choice was actually unexpected! I don’t follow-up on new releases strictly, but usually I have SOME sort of clue when it comes to guessing what novel will be in each month’s bag. P.S. I Like You is a contemporary, so I was VERY happy to have received this one. Lately, they have been featuring Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels (which I am not complaining about), but we all know I’m not my biggest Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan.

I love, love, LOVE bookish jewelry so that’s really what made August’s Uppercase. The notepad will come in GREAT use, and as for the quote print, it will be added to my collection!

AUGUST’S UPPERCASE BOX RATING: 4/5 STARS

NOTE: In case you guys weren’t aware, the Exclusive Content includes a special code that you can enter on their website to unlock exclusive content, videos from the author, additional backstories, and interact with other Uppercase readers. I personally have not tried this out yet just because I haven’t gotten around to actually reading a book that they’ve sent me. However, I do enjoy the idea!

The August Uppercase Box has definitely been one of the better month’s compared to the previous months, so I am very grateful for that. The day Uppercase includes candles, bookmarks/keychains, and bookish jewelry in the same bag is the day in which they will have fully impressed me. But until then, the wait continues!! My birthday is coming up at the end of this month, so I don’t know if I should change up my subscriptions…What do you guys think? All feedback is welcomed! 🙂

Discover Your Next Favorite Book! | ParnassusNext

Random Fact of the Day: Kangaroos cannot “walk” backward.

Hello sunshines! Today I am unboxing & reviewing a book subscription box company that I’m sure some of you guys haven’t been aware of (because I wasn’t until I did some research)! These are always my favorite boxes to share just because it gives the company more exposure, but also you guys! So let’s get to the post! 🙂

ParnassusNext is a monthly subscription box company that offers the best, NEW Young Adult novels curated by the experts at ParnassusNext! If that didn’t catch your attention, these novels are actually ALWAYS signed, first edition hardcover novels! Some examples from the past include the Serpent King, When We Collide, & Passenger!

This box is perfect for Young Adult readers, but really, anyone is welcomed to purchase this subscription! Each month, you’ll receive one beautifully packaged young adult book!

UNBOXING & REVIEW

From top left to bottom right:

  • The ParnassusNext Box
  • First-Look Inside Box
  • ParnassusNext Info. Card
  • Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth: First Look Sampler
  • This Savage Song Swag
  • 2 (two) TSS Temporary Tattoos: “Human” & “Monster”
  • This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab Signed Hardcover

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

So to start, the wonderful people at ParnassusNext actually gave me the option of picking the July box or the August box, and of course, I picked the August box because it had TSS in it! However, little did I know that the July Uppercase Box was going to ALSO have TSS. So, now I officially have TWO signed copies of TSS! I think the TSS themed temporary tattoos are so cute, however I’ve grown out of wearing temporary tattoos so I’ll probably give them away soon. I already have the Carve the Mark First Look sampler, however it was really cool of them to add. As you guys know, I love getting extra goodies with my bookish subscription boxes, so I was surprised to receive some in this box considering, from what I’ve read, they don’t promise extra goodies. I am still overly grateful for them, but I’m wondering if it was just implied that goodies would be sent along with the novel? Anyways, if you are looking for a subscription box that features a great, new released, signed hardcover YA novel, definitely check out ParnassusNext! I think their strongest aspect is how well they put together the box, along with the idea of a new, hardcover, & signed novel. As a reader, anything signed is ALWAYS a plus, so thank you, ParnassusNext!

AUGUST PARNASSUSNEXT RATING: 4/5 STARS

*DISCLAIMER: ParnassusNext currently ships to the United States, Canada, and most international destinations. Shipping in the U.S. is $6. Shipping to Canada is $15. They can ship to most international destinations for $25.

I was sent this box in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected any of the information or opinions expressed above. Everything said was solely my opinion. Thank you to the curators at ParnassusNext. #ParnassusNext

Definitely let me know what you guys think of ParnassusNext down below in the comments!

Random Fact of the Day: Gardening is said to be one of the best exercises for maintaining healthy bones.

Hello sunshines! I hope everyone’s morning/evening/night is going quite swell! And if not, hopefully this unboxing + review will make you smile? Just a little bit…? 🙂

• Expert Plan – $23/month [everything listed from the Book Exclusive Plan, except you also get 1-2 high quality bookish items]
  • Personalized Plan – $29/month [you will fill out a personalized reading profile which is used along with your Goodreads profile (if available) and each month you will receive a book based on YOUR specific reading preferences and tastes. No author content or reading experience]

I recently contacted someone directly at Uppercase to confirm that the Personalized Plan is no longer an option, so now there are only two plans that you can subscribe to!

Today I am Unboxing + Reviewing the JULY Uppercase Box! I usually post these the next month after just because I don’t want to spoil the contents for anyone that hasn’t gotten theirs yet! But anyways, let’s get on with the post.

UNBOXING & REVIEW

From top left to bottom right:

  • On The Way Home by Skye Warren (letter from author & signed bookmark)
  • Barefoot With A Bodyguard by Roxanne St. Claire (letter from author & postcard)
  • Secret Note Capsules: colorful happy pills perfect for exchanging hidden messages for your eyes only!
  • The Ever After Special Delivery Letter
  • Foldable Sunglasses
  • The Ever After Box Information Card
  • Invisible Ink Pen
  • The Gangster’s Woman Swag
  • Two Free E-book downloads: Stacking the Deck by Anne Marie Becker & I Spy a Duke by Erica Monroe
  • Barefoot Bay Backpack

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

As you can see, this Undercover themed box is absolutely PACKED with a ton of goodies! The box is pretty small itself, so I was surprised with all the items that were included! I think it’s really awesome how they offer free e-book downloads, along with TWO featured print copies. The Secret Note Capsules were probably my favorite items, just because they are so adorable! I literally thought they were legit pills until I read the information card xD The Barefoot Bay Backpack actually transforms into a small bag as well, so if you don’t want to carry a large backpack, you can fold it into a small purse-sized bag! I don’t wear sunglasses myself because I have prescription glasses but I gave them to my sister. And as for the invisible ink pen, I am anticipating some secret messages to unravel 😉

If you are a romance reader and you want some fantastic goodies along with a few novels, definitely check out The Ever After Box. Their boxes are one of the most unique that I’ve seen, just because there’s SO much that they offer. However, I think it would be cool if they expanded their subscription options to not just general romance, but to YA Romance, NA Romance, etc.

JULY EVER AFTER BOX RATING: 4/5 stars

*DISCLAIMER: The Ever After Box currently only ships to the U.S. However, they are researching options to expand and ship to the residents of Canada.

I was sent this box in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected any of the information or opinions expressed above. Everything said was solely my opinion. Thank you to the ladies at The Ever After Box. #EverAfterBox

Thanks for reading & I’ll see you next time…
